LibreOffice is the most important alternative for market leader
Microsoft Office. The development is done by The Document Foundation
and they want to be an open source alternative to the dominant market
position of Microsoft Office. It is entirely maintained by volunteers.
LibreOffice uses the default document format OpenDocument, making it
popular especially in public organizations (which are encouraged to use
open standards) in different countries. In the meantime, it is a worthy
alternative for Microsoft Office and available on many operating
systems (including Windows, Linux and Mac) and in more than 100

disk without installation making it an extremely powerful Office suite.

Apache OpenOffice is an alternative to Microsoft Office. StarOffice
developed this suite, but the company was taken over in 1999 by Sun.
The source code was released, and then development was done by Oracle.
That resulted in a split off of a group volunteers and they continued
development as LibreOffice.
OpenOffice also uses document format OpenDocument. It is an alternative
to Microsoft Office and LibreOffice and available on many operating
systems (including Linux and Mac) and in many languages.

Google Drive is an online service from Google. With this service you can create
formatted documents, spreadsheets and presentations created, which are stored online.
The service is similar to the paid programs Word, Powerpoint, and Microsoft Excel.
In order to be able to use Google Drive, you need a Google Account.
The created documents and spreadsheets are stored online and can be
shared with other Google users, real-time online simultaneously, where
each other’s changes directly are displayed on the each screen.

IBM Lotus Symphony was a free alternative to Office,
brought to the market to battle with paid version of Microsoft. The
package consists of a text, a presentation or a spreadsheet package.
The English version is still downloadable (you have to register), the
file is about 140 Mb and works on almost any PC. The package runs on
two operating systems: Windows and Linux.
